With redemption rates as low as 1% in many traditional forms of advertising, coupons sent to cell phones have become a viable option with a redemption rate as high as 30%. Ayeni said: "It is very hard to reach the young consumer, 18 - 35 years old, because they are on the move, they don't read newspapers, they get their news on the internet or on the phone. Because they don't have time, it is difficult for traditional advertising to reach them. As businesses, we need to be where our customers are. If our customers are on their cell phones, shouldn't we be?"

Although this technology is not new, many businesses have been locked out of the opportunity to deliver offers and discounts directly to customer cell phones due to the high upfront costs. "Many companies offering similar services charge upfront fees as high as $5,000 and they require you to bring your own customers," Ayeni said. "Text2store.com has aimed to lower the barrier by charging only 35 cents per customer with no upfront fees. We bring businesses the customers who have opted-in to our service while protecting customer privacy," he added.
