PaceButler Partner Raises Nearly $25,000 for Local Charities In Cell Phone Recycling Drive

Edmond, OK (PRWEB) May 10, 2007 -- In an announcement preceding Earth Day 2007, Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems said in the last six months it has collected more than 30,000 used wireless telephones as part of its on-going recycling campaign.

Cellular One, one of the largest providers of wireless service in rural America, said it more than doubled the number of phones it collected during the same period last year, and generated nearly $25,000 to be donated to local charities through its partnership with PaceButler Corporation http://www.pacebutler.com.

Money is generated after phones donated in Cellular One's Restart recycling program are sold to a cell phone recycling giant PaceButler Corporation, who facilitates the refurbishing of salvageable units and the recycling of those that cannot be used

"As newer, more dynamic handsets become available, many of our customers find themselves with old handsets they no longer use," said Cellular One spokesman Craig Davis. "Through Restart we ensure those old phones are properly recycled, and at the same time we make an investment in the communities we serve."

Davis said rough estimates indicate there are more than 130 million used wireless phones that are discarded every year.

Cellular One initiated the Restart program in 2005, and estimates it has collected more than 75,000 used wireless phones at its more than 250 retail locations in 17 states. The company is challenging its customers to continue supporting the program by bringing their unwanted cell phones to any Cellular One retail location.

Those who wish to participate in the donation program can help raise money for their favorite organization by visiting their local Cellular One location or by visiting http://www.americancellphonedrive.org, and entering their zip code to find a local drop off center. Any cell phone can be donated, even ones that no longer function.
